Entomological News seeks Associate Editor

The American Entomological Society is seeking an Associate Editor for Entomological News, a journal of general entomological research published five times annually.  Entomological News articles emphasize systematics, ecology, biogeography and physiology of insects and related terrestrial arthropods.  The journal currently receives about 130 manuscripts annually and approximately 65% are accepted and published. The Associate Editor is expected to assist the Editor in all phases of production, including: Initial editorial review, solicitation and evaluation of external peer review, decision on acceptability, pre-publication revision, formatting of text and illustrations for publication, and review of proofs.

As the Associate Editor gained familiarity with the process, he or she would be responsible for additional manuscripts and after a year (or so) the Associate Editor would assume the position of Editor. The Associate Editor will also be asked to assist in setting up the online editing and review process to be built into the Society’s new website soon.

The Associate Editor reports through the Editor to the AES Executive Council. The editor of Memoirs serves on the Council’s publications committee, along with the editors of the society’s other publications, Transactions of the American Entomological Society and Memoirs of the American Entomological Society.

Candidates should have professional experience in entomology and possess critical reading and writing skills along with a working knowledge of electronic word processing (preferably Microsoft Word) and layout software (Adobe PhotoShop and Acrobat DC or similar programs).  Preference may be given to candidates with experience in systematics and who reside in the northeastern USA. The successful candidate can start as early as spring 2020.  A modest honorarium is provided with each issue of Entomological News published.
